Speaker A:

Welcome to five minutes with grey hair Dave.

Speaker A:

He has grey hair.

Speaker A:

He has a grey beard.

Speaker A:

He wears glasses like the guy in the artwork.

Speaker A:

Oh, and the guy in the artwork is better looking now.

Speaker A:

Here is grey hair Dave.

Grey Hair Dave:

Well, welcome, folks.

Grey Hair Dave:

Welcome, welcome, welcome.

Grey Hair Dave:

,:

Grey Hair Dave:

The name of the storm was Milton.

Grey Hair Dave:

Milton had been pounding the east coast, I'm sorry, the west coast in central Florida.

Grey Hair Dave:

A good part of the day on Wednesday, which was the 9th part of the day, part of the evening on Tuesday, but really coming in on and strong on Wednesday.

Grey Hair Dave:

And then during the mid afternoon, it started creating a lot of tornado warnings over on the east coast.

Grey Hair Dave:

Mainly, yeah, mainly the east coast of Florida.

Grey Hair Dave:

Over a hundred tornado warnings and there were a few sightings.

Grey Hair Dave:

There's some that you've seen videos of online on the news.

Grey Hair Dave:

They were real.

Grey Hair Dave:

Now I'm lucky.

Grey Hair Dave:

I'm real lucky.

Grey Hair Dave:

None of them were close to me.

Grey Hair Dave:

I live, as I've said before, just north of magic kingdom, Disney World.

Grey Hair Dave:

And last night when it made.

Grey Hair Dave:

Milton made ground with the eye around 830, quarter to nine.

Grey Hair Dave:

And it was really kind of a weird hurricane if you're looking at it as it goes from west to east.

Grey Hair Dave:

All of the activity was on the north side, or the majority in front of it and down a little bit to the south.

Grey Hair Dave:

But once you hit, uh, the eye south of it was pretty quiet.

Grey Hair Dave:

Now, you had decided to come in around Siesta Key, which is south of, uh, Tampa Bay and Sarasota St.

Grey Hair Dave:

Pete area.

Grey Hair Dave:

And it was quite devastating.

Grey Hair Dave:

Huh.

Grey Hair Dave:

I saw today on the news a giant construction dumpster, one of the big, the ones that are long and not real tall.

Grey Hair Dave:

ft tall and about:

Grey Hair Dave:

Through the roof.

Grey Hair Dave:

My God, it was, it was windy here last night.

Grey Hair Dave:

Yesterday it rained a lot, a lot, a lot.

Grey Hair Dave:

When it got here to central Florida, it was down around a category two, a low category two, around 230.

Grey Hair Dave:

It was really, really weird.

Grey Hair Dave:

But it, we got through it here where I live.

Grey Hair Dave:

We, we, we were prepared.

Grey Hair Dave:

We had, we didn't do sandbags because personally, I believe we're high enough from the road.

Grey Hair Dave:

We're good just from the road.

Grey Hair Dave:

We're a good 2ft up, a little bit of an angle.

Grey Hair Dave:

Plus you got to step up and you know if something's going to happen, it's going to go into the garage first.

Grey Hair Dave:

Well, we were repaired.

Grey Hair Dave:

We were prepared for that, too.

Grey Hair Dave:

We had brought all the outdoor furniture in and made sure that, you know, we were secure.

Grey Hair Dave:

Extra water.

Grey Hair Dave:

I had all kinds of Diet Coke in my refrigerator.

Grey Hair Dave:

I had beer in my refrigerator.

Grey Hair Dave:

I stayed up till 330 last night just watching things happen.

Grey Hair Dave:

When I got out this morning.

Speaker C:

I.

Grey Hair Dave:

Was very surprised at the amount of damage that wasn't here at my house or in my neighborhood.

Grey Hair Dave:

Yeah, some, some debris, like small branches, a couple of larger branches, a couple of shingles, lots of leaves, you know, and just that kind of debris around.

Grey Hair Dave:

And the one, the one wonderful thing about where I live, this neighborhood I live in, there's quite a few, quite a few kids here, but most everybody was, it wasn't working today, so they were outside this afternoon cleaning up.

Grey Hair Dave:

And they weren't just cleaning up their area, they were cleaning up everything.

Grey Hair Dave:

They were raking up the streets, bringing it all into piles so they could get ready to get rid of it.

Grey Hair Dave:

I went out to help, but by the time I got out there and realized what was going on, it was too late.

Grey Hair Dave:

They already had all my house, you know, where I live, done.

Grey Hair Dave:

It was wonderful.

Grey Hair Dave:

And they were pretty much done in the neighborhood.

Grey Hair Dave:

I didn't realize they were doing it, but it's, oh, that's what happens in Florida when, when you have a hurricane.

Grey Hair Dave:

People come together as a community and they take care of each other.

Grey Hair Dave:

I've never been more proud to be in Florida and in this neighborhood than I was today.

Grey Hair Dave:

Seeing that kids I've never seen really close to the house out there with, with brooms and rakes, helping mom and dad or whoever rake up the garbage.

Grey Hair Dave:

Gotta say, we got lucky.

Grey Hair Dave:

I don't know if I mentioned this, but we did not lose power.

Grey Hair Dave:

We were expecting it.

Grey Hair Dave:

I think Orange county, where I live, was one of the, the least hit when it comes to power loss.

Grey Hair Dave:

I don't think we went over a hundred thousand.

Grey Hair Dave:

I think we were in the eighties where I think it was like 1.3 million across the state.

Grey Hair Dave:

And it'll take a while for like the Tampa Bay area to get back on its feet, but, uh, not as bad for me.

Grey Hair Dave:

Uh, and those around me, right around my area, uh, checked with my niece a little bit ago who lives a little further north, a little further west.

Grey Hair Dave:

She says she's okay, which makes me very happy.

Grey Hair Dave:

I have a chat that I'm involved in with a bunch of friends from work.

Grey Hair Dave:

They're all okay, including one who lives over that way on the north side of Tampa.

Grey Hair Dave:

And they were hunkered down and they were ready and they seemed to be all right.

Grey Hair Dave:

Which I'm very, very grateful for.

Grey Hair Dave:

As I tell you, I was praying last night and I know a lot of people were.

Grey Hair Dave:

So if you were praying for us, thank you, God.

Grey Hair Dave:

Thank you, too, for, for taking care of those of us who you took care of.

Grey Hair Dave:

My understanding is so far there's only four fatalities and they were up over in Port St.

Grey Hair Dave:

Lucie county and I don't know what happened there yet.

Grey Hair Dave:

I, I've not been paying as much attention to the news because it's been the news since Monday.

Grey Hair Dave:

These folks have stayed on the tv.

Grey Hair Dave:

So I'm hoping tonight they all take a break for themselves and give us all a break, too.

Grey Hair Dave:

But that's what's going on here in central Florida at gray hair Productions with, with your buddy here, gray hair Dave, I hope you did enjoy the intro.

Grey Hair Dave:

It's AI, it's from eleven labs.

Grey Hair Dave:

I'm gonna make some new ones.

Grey Hair Dave:

I'm thinking about making some for boomer podcasters, too.

Grey Hair Dave:

I did put out the trailer, folks.

Grey Hair Dave:

Go to and look it up online.

Grey Hair Dave:

Go to Boomer podcasters Bo omerpodcasters and you can catch the trailer.

Grey Hair Dave:

Now granted, the trailer is just a trailer just tells you what's what I hope to do.

Grey Hair Dave:

And it wasn't as organized as I wanted it, but I wanted to start getting things out there.

Grey Hair Dave:

If I get one out there, then things are moving.

Grey Hair Dave:

Excuse me, I am a little plugged up, but that's what I've got for today.

Grey Hair Dave:

Don't forget, if you know somebody who doesn't know what a podcast is, doesn't know where to find one, what kind of genres they have, how to download support, how to follow, how to subscribe.

Grey Hair Dave:

Please do me a favor and show them.

Grey Hair Dave:

I mean, we've all got, we've all got smartphones nowadays and if we don't have smartphones, we've got, we've got a computer.

Grey Hair Dave:

So, you know, talk to them about it a lot.

Grey Hair Dave:

This is, this is, this is as good sometimes or better than audio books.

Grey Hair Dave:

Audio books.

Grey Hair Dave:

My grandmother, my dad's mom started going blind late in life and she, my aunt who was living with her and taking care of her, would go to the library and get books on tape.

Grey Hair Dave:

They would, you know, they give you the machine to play it and that way grandma could, could watch, you know, I mean, listen to books because she was an avid reader and you know, she, tv wasn't a thing back then.

Grey Hair Dave:

So, you know this, somebody asks you to say, hey, it's kind of like books on table or an audiobook it's really not.

Grey Hair Dave:

You know that nine.

Grey Hair Dave:

Oh, that also, folks, smile at somebody you don't know you're gonna make their day.

Grey Hair Dave:

If you live in Florida, I hope you're safe.

Grey Hair Dave:

So, from gray hair, Dave, you all have a great day, and I will talk at you again next week.

Grey Hair Dave:

Bye bye.

Grey Hair Dave:

You have a great weekend.

Hello, everyone! I'm Gray Hair Dave, and I'm thrilled to introduce my new podcast, which will run for about 5 to 10 minutes each episode. I plan to share these episodes daily, despite my full-time job, so expect some flexibility in release times.
In this podcast, I'll be sharing my life experiences, having worked in various industries from paper mills to airlines, and even running a dance studio. I've also had my fair share of personal challenges, including two marriages that didn't work out, but that's life, and I'm here to share the wisdom I've gained.
I'm also excited to talk about my new venture, Boomer Podcasting, where I aim to teach fellow baby boomers and anyone interested in podcasting how to share their stories and leave a legacy.
This podcast isn't just for baby boomers, though. I welcome listeners of all generations to join in as I discuss life lessons, my new business, and a range of topics from family and friendships to music, TV shows, cars, technology, books, historical events, and even encounters with famous individuals.
I promise to keep the content upbeat and child-friendly, with no cursing or ranting. I've got a lot planned for the first 30 days and am open to more ideas. So, stay tuned for engaging stories, reflections on past decades, and discussions on holiday traditions.
Remember, this podcast is for everyone, and I want to show that anyone can podcast, even with just a phone. I'm looking forward to sharing more and hope you'll join me on this journey.
